Me too!

Sebastian asked me to help with Club Penguin a couple of days ago. I said yes, of course. And then I found myself having so much fun figuring out the clues for the missions that I found myself playing alone at times.......we were a team. When he would loose focus and need to be active, I would continue playing to find another piece of the puzzle.

Last night, Stan and I were chatting when Sebastian came in the room and asked for help again. We dialouged about where he was in the mission we were trying to conquer. He needed help with throwing the snowballs at the target. He had already found the life preserver, the bucket, the sheet music and befriended the yellow puffle who builds stuff out of snow. Stan looked at me amused and confused...What are you talking about, he said? I explained and told him how much fun we've been having :) I asked Stan if he would help with the snowball throwing since it was a bit challenging. ( I wanted to see if he would figure it out more easily and I would learn something from him.) Oh yea!.....he did it quickly and showed me how to use the intensifier-meter! I think I can throw the snowballs better now...hahaha! We shall see soon!

Sebastian and the internet!

Sebastian truly enjoys being online. And I have no idea exactly how much or what all he is learning but I know and trust he is! Some things I can "see" like he has learned to spell his name and then there are other things like all the questions he asks that are prompted by being exposed to new concepts. He is so curious, of course, but he asks questions like there is no tomorrow!

The past few months he has been playing Toontown and Club penguin. Here is a collage we made of CP pics he took. He doesn't play Toontown so much anymore though.

Sebastian tries school on for size

Sebastian wanted to give school and try and see what it is all about. It didn't take too long for him to mention homeschooling. We talked though and I encouraged him to continue a little longer to be sure, he was willing. On the 9th day of school Sadie and I left for the Rethinking Education conference. Almost all of us were having sinus issues so he just stayed home with Dad and Sister for the school days we were gone. The night before going back to school he said he just wanted to homeschool (third time since the start). He was very matter of fact, didn't mention any trauma attached to it, so I figured he had really had his fill. So we turned the papers in the next day. He hasn't brought up going back or even missing it. I am totally biased to unschooling but I tried very hard to be as neutral as possible. We talked a lot about the differences between homeshooling and attending a school. His first complaint was not being able to draw what we wanted to draw. The second situation involved trying out riding the bus home and the driver yelled at him for "opening the window". We think he might have tripped an emergency lever! The third time he was distaught about a girl following him around and was ready to stay at home. It was a neat experience.
